The first difference: No Lives. Seriously, you can play as long as you want and they will never say you have to wait to keep playing or buy more stuff.
The second difference: You put together a team of allies and companions, each with a specific unique ability to fight enemies. The matching of the gem powers up these allies to use a standard attack on the enemies, there is a system of strengths, weaknesses and perks in place. In this regard the game is similar to the final fantasy series.
There is the option to make in game purchases but there is absolutely no pressure to do so, and there are phenomenal perks to making in game purchases such as the 'fan area' which features exclusive levels, allies, and a higher drop rate for time fragments (which can be used to get allies to new levels.)
Ultimately this game is really a blast to play, not to mention very user friendly. Additionally the creative team behind it, Lee and Susan (at TinyRebel Games), are some of the most fun sounding people I've ever heard from. They can be heard each Thursday at 3 pm EST on Twitch, on Adipose TV's station. The creators of the game alone make me want to support it (and believe me I have... I've spent far more money than I care to admit on this game.)
